SIGABRT
Privacy Policy
SIGABRT does not have accounts, does not ask for your email, and does not send anything to a Verewild server. It is a single-player game that saves to your own computer. The data that does exist is collected by Steam, and this page explains exactly what it is.
Last updated: August 23, 2026
This page covers SIGABRT specifically. Who is responsible, the legal bases, retention, your rights and how to complain are on the Verewild privacy page, and apply here too.
The short version
- Your progress is saved as files on your own computer.
- If you use Steam Cloud, copies of your progress and settings are stored on Valve's servers so they follow you between machines.
- Steam records your playtime, the achievements you earn, and a small set of gameplay statistics, and connects them to your Steam account.
- Verewild reads those statistics as combined totals across all players, to see whether the game is too hard and which endings people choose.
- There are no ads, no third-party analytics, no trackers, and nothing is sold to anyone.
What the game stores on your computer
SIGABRT writes three files to your user data folder. They contain nothing about you personally — only the state of the game:
- Progress — unlocks, records, discovered lore and your saved function library.
- The run in progress — so you can close the game mid-run and resume.
- Settings — volume, key bindings, and accessibility options.
Uninstalling the game and deleting that folder removes all of it. No copy is kept by Verewild.
What Steam collects
SIGABRT is distributed through Steam, and Valve Corporation collects data as part of running that platform, whether or not the game asks for it. For SIGABRT this includes your Steam account identifier, how long you play, which achievements you unlock, and the gameplay statistics listed below. Valve is a separate data controller for that processing, governed by the Steam Privacy Policy rather than by this one, and Verewild cannot delete data held by it.
The statistics the game records
These are counters about the game, not about you:
- How many runs you have started.
- Which district a run ended in, when a run is lost.
- Which of the four endings you chose, when a run is won.
- Your best number of turns survived against the final encounter.
Nothing else is recorded. The game does not log what you type, what else is on your computer, where you are, or anything about your hardware beyond what Steam already gathers for its own hardware survey.
These are collected on the basis of legitimate interests: a one-person studio needs to know whether the difficulty is fair and which endings land, and there is no way to learn that from a game that reports nothing. They are read as totals across all players, never sold, and never used to target anyone. You can object — see your rights.
Steam Cloud
If Steam Cloud is enabled, your progress and settings files are copied to Valve's servers so they are available on any computer where you sign in. The file holding your current run is deliberately left out, so a run in progress stays on the machine you started it on. You can turn Steam Cloud off for this game at any time in its Steam properties, and delete what it holds from the same place.
What Verewild can see
Verewild is one person, and the point of collecting anything is to answer design questions: is the game too hard, do players reach the end, which ending resonates. That work is done with combined totals across everyone who plays — a number like "how many runs ended in /var", not a list of who they belonged to.
In the interest of being complete rather than flattering: Steamworks, the developer side of Steam, does also allow looking up the statistics attached to an individual Steam account. Verewild uses this only to confirm the game is recording correctly after a change, and does not build profiles of players or attempt to identify anyone.
Verewild also receives ordinary commercial reporting from Valve — sales, wishlists, refunds, regional totals — in the aggregated form Steamworks provides it.
What is never collected
- Your name, email address, postal address, or payment details. Purchases happen entirely on Steam; Verewild never sees your payment information.
- Any advertising or third-party analytics identifier. The game contains no ad SDK, no analytics SDK, and no tracking pixels.
- Any content from outside the game — files, screenshots, keystrokes, or other applications.
Deleting your data
You can do this yourself, without asking anyone: clear the game's Steam Cloud files in its Steam properties, and delete the local save folder. Uninstalling removes the game; deleting that folder removes the saves.
For data held by Valve — account identifier, playtime, achievements, statistics — use Steam Support, which can act on it directly. Verewild holds no copy of it to delete.
Everything else
Who is responsible, the legal bases, how long data is kept, international transfers, children, your full rights and how to complain to a data protection authority are on the Verewild privacy page, which covers this game as well as everything else Verewild makes.
